Georgina Kerr • Common Purpose

Georgina Kerr

What made you join Common Purpose and start your training journey?

I started training with common purpose because I had two goals in mind. The first was that I really wanted to become stronger to help eradicate any back pain I had from my scoliosis. The second goal was to be in the best shape possible for my wedding. I had looked around a few gyms and spoken with trainers but they never really filled me with confidence that they would tailor a programme for my two specific goals. But Common Purpose absolutely did just that.

Have you previously tried anything else to achieve your goals? If so, what was this?

I have always been active and loved to train, but I had never done a programme so consistently before as I did with common purpose. Whenever I used a PT before they did not feel very invested in me as a client with not much follow up or personalisation.

What has been the best thing about achieving your results?

I love how strong I feel more than anything and as a result, my back pain has just completely gone. I am also training for a ½ marathon and when I used to run I always struggled with my back and now it just feels very easy. I also felt so confident in my body on my wedding day and really pleased that I did my training over a 18 month period and didn’t opt for the restrictive wedding diet. It’s always nice to see the transition of squidgy sides to a more toned physique.

How have you found the training process at Common Purpose?

Absolutely loved it. I always look forward to my sessions with Rob. I really like how they do the training in blocks and push me to lift bigger weights and keep upping the training. The facilities are amazing and everyone is so friendly and encouraging. Whilst Rob is my lead trainer it’s been great to chat to all the other members of the CP team.

What’s your favourite exercise or workout and why?

Most recently it has been the pull-ups, as it’s a really clear indication of my progress, especially when I think about my very first session.

What’s your least favourite exercise or workout and why?

I have a love hate relationship with the mini circuit I do at the end of one of my sessions using the row, bike and skiErg. I always dread it but you do feel great once it is completed. Also I never really enjoy a lunge sequence.

What kept you motivated on the most challenging day?

I guess having my goals in mind and of course the trainers. Writing down the previous weights you’re using in your programme booklet also helps to keep nudging you to increase those and keep progressing. Also the CP team always have a good playlist in the gym.

Have you noticed any other benefits from achieving your results?

Yes, I used to really dread doing weight training on my own if I went to my local gym. Now I really enjoy going through my sessions solo and feel confident with what my form and technique should be. Also having seen the results from weight training I appreciate the benefit of it so much more than just doing cardio.

Have your friends or family noticed anything different about you since training with Common Purpose?

Yes, I’ve had lots of compliments on my toned arms, especially after the wedding. I have also done a few Pilates classes with my friends who mentioned how strong I was in the class, so that’s always nice.

What would you say to anyone considering working with Common Purpose and why?

Don’t hesitate and go for it! It’s such a supportive and friendly community. All the trainers have made the CP space a fun place to train but it’s also underlined with a wealth of knowledge and they really know what they are talking about when it comes to training. There is no judgment, everything is tailored completely to your own individual goals and they will help you reach those goals. It’s important to invest in your health and CP is a great place for this investment, the gym floor is never too crowded, and all the equipment is first class as our all the team.
