Tom Fitzmaurice • Common Purpose

Tom Fitzmaurice

What made you join Common Purpose and start your training journey?

I was looking for a gym that could help me be more consistent, stay injury free and get back into the shape I had been in my late 20’s before Covid.

Have you previously tried anything else to achieve your goals? If so, what was this?

I had tried multiple ways to achieve my goals, classes, training myself, other PTs as well as online workout programmes but each time I would either injure myself by pushing too hard to soon or would eventually stall and then lose motivation.

What has been the best thing about achieving your results?

I feel like a better version of my previous self. Better physical and mental health  combine and it is compounding as the CP team continually help me set, achieve and reset goals.

How have you found the training process at Common Purpose?

Being able to train in a gym where it feels the whole training staff is invested in your success is fantastic, from the moment you walk in and they say hello till you walk out and they wish you a great day. The setting and the equipment is great and your never too rushed by an overly busy gym

What’s your favourite exercise or workout and why?

Favourite exercises change quite abit but the trap bar deadlift and moving some heavy weights is always a highlight for me.

What’s your least favourite exercise or workout and why?

Being a heavier guy pullups have always been tough and trying to get one more rep is always frustrating. Or any intense tabata !

What kept you motivated on the most challenging day?

The trainer; when its been a bad day at work or I’ve not been feeling well Rob has managed to help me adapt and shift the workout so that even when I was unmotivated or didn’t feel capable we were able to get something done and keep things moving.

Have you noticed any other benefits from achieving your results?

Cliché but by setting realistic goals and continuing to hit those targets it’s made me approach other aspects of my life in a more focused way and recognising that you’ve got to put in consistent hard work across everything you do.

Have your friends or family noticed anything different about you since training with Common Purpose?

Other than my golf drive being comfortable the furthest in the family now its mostly been improved mood and attitude from being in better shape, t shirts being tighter round the arms rather than stomach is also something I’ve had comments on from my partner

What would you say to anyone considering working with Common Purpose and why?

The team across the board are both excellent trainers and great people. When you walk into the gym its always a positive contribution to your day both because of the training but also the “vibes”. The focus on the long term and sustainable aspect of the training is second to none. They want to set you up for success for the long term and really pay attention to you the individual rather than as a revenue stream.
