What made you join Common Purpose and start your training journey?

Having visited several gyms I felt the team at Common Purpose was best suited to me, more focused on personalisation and motivation. Plus they seemed genuinely nice people to be around. My motivation to start training again after a 10+ year break was to lose the ‘Dad bod’ and get my fitness back, particularly after fracturing my spine in an accident 1 year earlier.

Have you previously tried anything else to achieve your goals? If so, what was this?

I tried working out at mainstream gyms and didn’t enjoy it. I didn’t feel competent and comfortable in the environment. I tried cardio at home and bought an exercise bike but found it boring and hard work. I tried changing my diet but didn’t really know what I was doing and it was ineffective.

What has been the best thing about achieving your results?

My self confidence! I feel amazing. I look and feel better than I could have ever expected and I’m fitter than I have ever been. I have more energy and more focus at work and at home

How have you found the training process at Common Purpose?

The process has been excellent. Regular reviews and tracking progress, setting realistic goals and feeling accountable for my side of the equation – it’s not only about what happens on the gym floor, so the guidance and advice that has helped me make wider lifestyle changes have been invaluable

What’s your favourite exercise or workout and why?

Cardio and Core day is my favourite workout because it’s the one where I have seen the most progress and I’m still surprised I can see my abs after years of them being hidden

  1. What’s your least favourite exercise or workout and why?

Inchworms. I’m just not flexible enough!

What kept you motivated on the most challenging day?

Knowing that even though it feels hard, I’m still achieving my goals step by step and Oli does a great job of reminding me how far I have come

Have you noticed any other benefits from achieving your results?

The excuse to buy new clothes now I’ve lost so much weight my trousers don’t fit

Have your friends or family noticed anything different about you since training with Common Purpose?

Only that I’ve become boring about sharing my results and droning on about what I’m eating / not eating these days

What would you say to anyone considering working with Common Purpose and why?

Just try it for yourself and be honest with yourself and your trainer on your goals and abilities.
